A double check valve assembly may be used as protection for all domestic water supply which does not constitute a health hazard. Most of the backflow preventers have plastic parts inside the metal housing which require maintenance and semi annual inspections. Local county governments required annual inspections which are labeled and dated by licensed backflow inspection plumbing contractors. Pressure vacuum breakers may be used as protection for connections to all types of non potable systems where the vacuum breakers are not subject to backpressure commonly used with irrigation water pipe systems. These units may be used under continuous supply pressure such as sprinkler systems. They must be installed above the usage point on any pipe line.
