Pex Pipe

Pex water Pipe

Pex pipe has been around for years, some of the first Pex ever used was Polyethylene pipe, it had a lot of problems with breaking and leaking and never grew to larger markets because it started to fail not long after it was installed.
Cross-Linked Polyethylene, AKA Pex or XLpe is a form of Polyethylene with cross-links.  It is made into pipe for Building service for water, electrical, hydronic radiant heating, cooling systems, insulation for high tension electrical cables.
Pex pipe is also used for natural gas and offshore oil applications.

New Pex pipe for today!

New pex pipe today is much stronger and the fittings have been redesigned and mostly are becoming the same fittings used on compression fittings and press fittings from copper pipe. If Pex pipe and copper pex press fittings are used together, then a very flexible strong and clean water line has been created.

Commercial Pex pipe, Utility water main

High Density Pex pipe has been adopted by City Water Departments as the service lines up to 2inch water pipes. The pipe is a two layer design, the inner liner for water resistant and non plastic contamination and a durable outside pipe to protect the inside liner, similar to ductile Iron pipe. Brass compression fittings can be used, in addition to copper pex pipe to make a permanent and durable connection. New Pex press and Pex compression can be stronger than soldered copper pipes because of a different level of consistency with each connection.

Pex is here for a reason!

A soldered fitting are very inconsistent in hard to reach areas such as too close to the ground, wall or ceiling and the torch can not circle the fittings, nor can a proper visual inspection be performed. Press fittings and compression fittings have much more of a consistent connection, no matter how close to a surface the pipe is, if the press fitting is pressed and compression fitting completed, then there is a 100% consistency that is able to be provided by the service provider and any defects from the manufacture are insured and any water damaged occurred is also insured by the manufacturing company.
Pex pipe allows more flexibility for colder climates having less frequent breaks due to the expansion and movement of water pressure and temperature changes.
